Slowly but steady more news is leaking through on the Wii U. With everything we know now I will buy Wii U on launch and here are five good reasons why you should buy Wii U too!
#5 – HD quality games on the Wii U
The original Wii not supporting High Definition was a real let down for many Nintendo fans. In the meanwhile they saw the competition putting out games with finger licking graphics for your HD television. Especially when you own multiple consoles and you go from a Wii game to a PS3 or XBOX 360 the difference is noticeable and it seems you jump back a whole generation with your console. In this day and age you can’t bring out a non-HD device anymore and Nintendo did the right thing in equipping the Wii U with HD quality. The Zelda tech demo was beautiful and will have people running to the store to buy Wii U when it comes out.
#4 – Buy Wii U and use your current controllers and games
A strong point with the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo Wii U is that everything is backwards compatible. Old Nintendo Gamecube games can be played on the Wii console and current Wii games can still be played when you buy Wii U. What’s even greater is that your current (expensive!) Wiimotes with the MotionPlus attachment are still used on the Wii U in conjunction with the shiny new controller. So when you buy Wii U and want to play with multiple friends there’s no need to shell out an additional amount for extra controllers as you already have these in your house.
#3 – Nintendo is the only one putting out a new console with the Wii U
Let’s make it clear. I’m growing tired of the current generation of home consoles and as a video game addict I embrace everything new coming out. Since Sony and Microsoft didn’t reveal anything about a new home console yet I’m glad Nintendo took the lead in putting out a home console first in 2012 with their Wii U. They claim that the Wii U will not drastically outperform the PS3 and XBOX 360 in terms of processing power, but it doesn’t really matter when you’re the only one with a new home console at the time of release. Not trying to blow your competition out the water will also allow for a moderately priced console unit at launch which will have more people buy Wii U.
#2 – Proper third party support for the Wii U
At the E3 it showed that third party support for a new console has become a real delicate matter for Nintendo. After the video presentation of the Wii U Nintendo showed interviews with several third party developers who expressed their excitement towards the Wii U and its controller in particular. The probable launch games were mentioned after that, with EA fully backing up the new console as stated by their representative on the E3 stage. Furthermore THQ, Ubisoft, Warner Bros, 5th Cell, Namco Bandai, Irrational Games and Disney will definitely be on board developing for the Wii U. In order for people to buy Wii U, third party support should be solid and it seems Nintendo are working hard at it.
#1 – The Wii U game controller
I would buy Wii U for this thing alone I swear. It’s not for nothing that Nintendo almost didn’t showcase the console unit itself as the new tablet controller is the centerpiece of this new gaming experience. The tech demo’s on the E3 showed a tiny bit of its potential, but I’m sure people will get more excited when developers become familiar with developing games for this unit and make use of its full potential. And it’s awesome that I can just take the controller around the house while my console is streaming the game on its touchscreen. Unfortunately, when you buy Wii U you only get one of these and it’s not possible to buy an additional one.
So there you have it. These are my current top five reasons to buy Wii U next year. I’m sure many more reasons can be added to these list. Keep checking here for more updates.
